Slight gains of emissions despite bearish energy complex

The power spot prices for today averaged 86.50€/MWh in Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, dampened by the recent drop of gas prices and the current wind surge across NWE with the production reaching nearly 42GW in Germany this morning.

The EUAs edged up over their last session of the year amid very thin exchanged volumes with most traders off for the holidays. The EUA Dec.22 closed at 80.65€/t, +0.49€/t day-on-day and marking a massive 47.71€/t (+145%) increase in 2021. The dropping temperatures and lack of auction this week could provide some support in the short-term to carbon prices, although further losses in the gas prices could start weighing on the market.

The power forward prices continued to post hefty losses on Friday, driven down by the falling gas prices and forecasts of mild weather for the season.
