The low temperatures continued to support the power spot prices in north western Europe yesterday which rose further up. Prices reached 59.55€/MWh on average in Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, +13.42€/MWh day-on-day, with the French price climbing to 75.26€/MWh amid expectations of weaker nuclear availability today.
The EUA prices surged to a new record of 44.35€/t yesterday, lifted by a combination of soaring equities, cold weather strengthening the thermal power production, an overall stronger energy complex and last minute buying from the late compliance companies. The morning’s auction clearing with a massive premium on the secondary market is likely to have provided additional support.
Driven up by the rising gas and emissions, the power prices posted hefty gains along the curve over the first session of the week.
